Biography

Sara Horrell is an up-and-coming equestrian talent, aiming at Young Rider squads. She has interests – and has enjoyed success – in both British Dressage (BD) and British Eventing (BE) and is at the start of a promising career. To date, Sara has demonstrated a particular talent with young horses, having backed and produced a number herself – taking these to success with wins at BD and BE.

Despite the fact that she has only recently had access to a ménage, she has been a BD Talent Spotters National Finalist, has qualified a number of horses for BD Regional Championships and is the winner of a BYRDS U21s Championship.

At BE, she was the highest scoring member of the BE Eastern Region JRN squad (9th) at the National Finals, Weston Park International, 2010 and repeated this sucess in her first season of Young Riders finishing 9th at the Weston Park International CICYR** Championships. She has enjoyed a number of wins and high placings from BE90 to BE Intermediate – again, mostly with horses she has produced herself ‘from scratch’.

‘I recently sent my 4 year old gelding, Sebastian, to Sara Horrell for schooling on after he was gently broken over the winter(2009-2010), with a view to starting his ridden education.

The aim was to get some basic flatwork under his belt; do some cross country schooling and clear round jumping and get him used to travelling and being out in new places amongst other horses.

Sara's skills far exceeded my expectations-she has a natural aptitude with youngsters; being brave and confident combined with great sensitivity and patience.

She skilfully guided him round his first country jumps and by the end of only one month he was happy and relaxed going through water, over logpiles, over coffins and up and down steps. He won his first rosette doing a lovely, balanced and rhythmical clear round over coloured jumps.

The icing on the cake was when he went to his first dressage competition and was first and second in his two classes. The level of schooling that he had achieved in only one month was testament to Sara's outstanding riding ability and a mature approach well beyond her years.

I would have no hesitation in highly recommending her to anyone wishing to give their youngster an excellent start to their training. Sebastian has now gone to a fabulous local home as an event horse; Sara has played a large part in finding him the right home.’

‘Sara is an up and coming young event rider who displays talent, commitment and determination to achieve at the highest level in her chosen sport. She has produced a number of horses herself and has improved the performance of her intermediate horse, Charlie O Kelly by dint of hard work, a willingness (and ability) to learn and innate horsemanship. She has a natural sympathy with her horses and demonstrates a firm resolve to accomplish her goals through genuine partnership with them.’

‘In training sessions Sara is like a sponge soaking up all the information she can, her mental attitude is excellent, she is very focused, asks relevant questions and gets involved with her learning she does not just rely on being told what to do. This makes her a very teachable pupil.

Sara is a very cool competitor with the right mental attitude combined with talent and the ability to learn from every experience so as to improve the next experience. This takes focus, attention to detail and the ability to analyse your own performance, Sara has shown she can do all these things, this bodes well for the future and I believe with the right support to help her progress Sara is capable of establishing a future career in International competition.’
